Bringing Brooklyn's Bars To You

Cinco de Mayo, Brooklyn Style

Looking to celebrate your Mexican roots? Need an excuse to drink margaritas and Coronas? Or just happy you don’t live in Arizona? These are just some of the reasons to let loose Wednesday, May 5, aka Cinco de Mayo.

But where to party? I asked my good friend Sam Jacobs, Editor-in-Chief of the wonderful restaurant blog Eating Brooklyn, to give me his favorite place to load up on tequila wine and dine on Cinco de Mayo. His choice? Lobo on Court Street in Cobble Hill:

Go for the food; stay for the margaritas.  This Tex-Mex hot spot not far from the Cobble Hill movie theater serves up some of the tastiest food north of San Antonio.  I like to get The Wolf – a combination platter with two enchiladas – one chopped beef, the other cheese – topped with more cheese, and served with their signature rice & beans.  But I don’t stop there.  Even on days when I’m not hungry (of which there are few) I always find room for their negra – ancho chile margarita.  This surprisingly refreshing drink is $7 worth of lime juice, cointro, and their special ancho chile blend, and of course a healthy dose of Vitamin T (tequila).

If Lobo’s not your thing, there’s always my favorite rooftop dining spot in all of Brooklyn, the upscale Mexican eatery Alma on Columbia Street. The Bell House is hosting a sold-out “Guactacular” … but have no fear, there’s always the free after party starting at 10pm, with free shots of Sauza. And The Brooklyn Paper has this list of best tacos in Billyburg.
